Mt. Rapid (Environmental Association 3.2.1)
Hills and ridges on interbedded shale and arkose, locally overlain by tillite. Relic fans form broad flat surfaces near Cape Jervis where some coastal cliffs occur. Open parkland with sown pasture is used for livestock grazing.
The views are generally middleground panoramic, contracting to foreground perspective along valleys. From the highest parts one can see Gulf St. Vincent. In the south-west, Kangaroo Island functions as a backdrop to the panoramic view from Sheep Hill over the gently undulating fan with its teatree woodland sloping down towards Cape Jervis. The scenery of the coastline is dominated by tall cliffs which vary in form and steepness, the amount of rock outcrop and vegetative cover. This variety, and the contrast with the rounded forms of the ridge crests, make the view quite spectacular.
