Coorong (Environmental Association 2.1.5)

location map showing Coorong (Environmental Association 2.1.5)

A spectacular coastal dune complex rising 30-40 m above the beach. The mobile active dunes are gradually moving north-east over older vegetated dunes and in places have advanced to the shores of the lagoon behind the dune complex. The association also includes coastal beaches and small mudflats. Leeward sections of the dune complex have a cover of coastal heath, which outside conservation areas is used for light grazing of beef cattle. The entire complex, and especially the beach, is used for recreation.

Panoramic views of the ocean and coastline, with the high dunes as dominating features, are provided from the dunes themselves, whilst lagoons are significant foreground as features of the panoramic views over the adjacent inland plains. From these lagoons, local enclosed and perspective views can be obtained.
