An extensive lacustrine plain, partly covered by Lake Alexandrina, which is fringed with swamps and salt flats and bordered by low rises and isolated dunes. The lake is used for recreations. The fringing swamplands, flats and rises have reedland and chenopodoid shrublands interspersed with small areas of pasture all used for grazing livestock.

From the lake the panoramic views have dunes as local background features. Swamps, mudflats, and islands within the association, and at the seaward boundary, the higher shifting dunes of Coorong association (2.1.5) are dominating features.
