Lower Murray (Environmental Association 2.3.15)

location map showing Lower Murray (Environmental Association 2.3.15)

The Murray River floodplain, here incised some 40 m below the surface of the surrounding calcreted plains. The higher proportion of the floodplain and some of the highest swamps have been drained and reclaimed for pasture and fodder cultivation. Dairy cattle and other livestock are either grazed on these pastures or fed on fodder harvested from them.

The steep cliffs beside the river create local perspective views. From the top of the cliffs, panoramic views are available, with the floodplain, swamps and channel creating foreground features.
