Carcuma (Environmental Association 2.2.14)

location map showing Carcuma (Environmental Association 2.2.14)

Calcarenite dune ridges which form the northern margin of the stranded dune ridge complex, overlain with irregular sand dunes. Considerable areas still carry the native mallee and heath vegetation, only part of which is conserved. The other parts, as well as the cleared areas, are used for grazing. There is some cereal cultivation near Coonalpyn.

Blocks of mallee dominate in foreground and middleground panoramic views, whilst detailed landscapes are provided within the mallee. Background panoramic views over this and The Big Desert association (2.3.3), featuring a wide expanse of the mallee country, can be obtained from the higher dunes.
