Beachport (Environmental Association 1.1.1)

location map showing Beachport (Environmental Association 1.1.1)

A coastal dune system with an active foredune and occasional blowouts. The sand supply comes mainly from the present beach. Older consolidated dunes discontinuously underlie the active foredune, and where these are expose along the shore, low cliffs have developed. Intermittent swales separate the inland system from the main foredune. Coastal health occurs throughout, with rushes in the swales. Most of the land is used for conservation. Recreation is important where access roads reach the coast, particularly in the vicinity of Beachport and Grey.

Local headlands provide panoramic views of the ocean and coastline and high dunes also provide panoramic views over adjacent inland units. Within the association, local enclosed and detailed views occur within the dune complex.
