Naracoorte (Environmental Association 1.4.11)

location map showing Naracoorte (Environmental Association 1.4.11)

Calcarenite dune ridges overlain by dunes or sheets of mobile sand. Narrow interdunal areas although locally thinly veneered with sand, are imperfectly drained due to the underlying impermeable clay and marl. South of Naracoorte pine plantations, and remnants of open forest occur, intermixed with parkland with pasture understory, but to the north of Naracoorte, parkland and open parkland with a pasture understory are dominant and remnants of forest are few. Pastures are grazed by beef cattle and sheep.

Enclosed and perspective views are characteristic of the swamps interdunal areas. The dune ridges provide panoramic views over adjacent associations.
